I’ve decided to start a pragmatic beer group/gathering.
What is Pragmatic Beer? Pragmatic Beer is social event in which various technologists gather to "talk shop" and drink beer (or your drink of choice). A pragmatic beer event is similar to a "Geek Dinner" where a group of individuals gather once a month at a predetermined location to eat dinner together and talk shop about technology in general – basically its a chance to hang out with other geeks. Pragmatic beer differs is in the atmosphere of the meeting. Instead of meeting at a restaurant and sitting down to eat dinner, a pragmatic beer event takes place at a local pub with a good beer selection. The event normally starts around 4:30 pm and ends whenever the last group of geeks leaves. You’re not required to stay any length of time. Want to hang out for 5 minutes? Sure, no problem. What to hang out for a couple of hours? Cool! Want to hang out all night?! Go for it!
How do I get invited to Pragmatic Beer? Simple – Just show up.
Is this ANOTHER _______ User Group? NO! Not at all! Do you code in Ruby? Korn Shell? Powershell? C++? VB.NET? C#? Objective C? or just play around with Excel Macros for fun? Are you a network engineer? System Admin? Unix Admin? Active Directory Guru? IT DOESN’T MATTER. If you consider yourself techie, you’re invited. Even if you’re not a technie and you just want to hang out with us cool techie dorks, you’re still welcome. Trust us, we won’t tell your marketing buddies about it. What happens at Pragmatic Beer, stays at Pragmatic Beer. 🙂
