I built a new software as a service (SaaS) tool to manage email lists – Listomo.
It’s out now. Check it out here.
If you’re a creator, builder, maker, marketer, or developer who builds multiple things you’ll probably find it useful.
What is Listomo?
Listomo allows you to manage multiple email lists with unlimited contacts for cheap all within one account.
Why Did I Build This?
Plain and simple, I got tired of paying an insane amount for multiple lists with various different email service providers (ESP).
At one point I was paying over $400 a month to manage my various lists. Thats $4,800 a year to manage email lists. I might send 1-2 emails a month. That’s $200-400 an email. WHAT?!?
That’s ridiculous.
Then, having to manage all those different email accounts is a pain too. Ugh.
So I build Listomo to solve this issue. I’ve been using it for my own lists for over the last 6 months.
Why This Matters
Here’s the thing … I have multiple email lists. All for different things. I have a list for my blog, my podcast, my SaaS product(s), my apps, other projects, etc.
When you run into the situation of having multiple lists you end up having to create multiple accounts on ESP’s like ConvertKit, or MailChimp, etc. Then, those services charge you per contact on each account you create. Sometimes you’ll fit within their free tier, but your big lists definitely do not fall into a free tier. As each of your lists grow, you have more and more monthly fees.
Eventually you’re dying a death of a thousand cuts. One fee here, another there, ugh, kill me now.
You’ve got multiple monthly subscription payments for multiple list accounts and you’ve got multiple logins to manage to access all these lists. More complexity, more problems, no thanks.
I’m paying out the nose for a service I rarely use and I have to manage multiple logins to access each of these. This sucks.
Actually, let me share how I really feel about this … so please excuse my french, but its exactly how I feel about this situation …
That’s a fucking pain in ass and its irritating as hell. I hate it. It drives me nuts.
I feel like I’m being nickle and dimed to death. My list payments went north of $400 a month it made it hard to justify all these lists if there was no ROI at the time.
Furthermore, as these other popular service providers add more features, their prices keep going up. Ugh.
I don’t want a gazillion new features. I want simplicity.
I’m not the only one who feels this way.
I want to grow my email list and send some broadcasts, maybe some drip campaigns with some automations. Thats it. I don’t want more than that. I want simple.
So, I built Listomo.
How Listomo Works
I have a full blog post on it over on the Listomo blog, but here’s the short of it:
Listomo handles all the email list management, broadcasts, forms, double opt in messaging, spam prevention, open tracking, email restrictions, unsubscribe links, etc.
The only thing Listomo doesn’t do is actually deliver the email.
We “send” it, but in order for it to be delivered you need to connect it to an SMTP provider.
Listomo is built to support any SMTP provider, but right now we fully support SendGrid at the time of launching.
This means that we will support other providers soon, and if you have your own SMTP provider you can use that too.
That’s how we can keep costs low.
Delivering email is a complicated task and one we’re leaving to the industry pros, but everything else, we will handle.
What this means is that if you decide that you want to change SMTP providers one day, you can, for whatever reason. Just update your list settings and, boom, you’re done. No updating your email forms, no updating links, etc. Everything keeps working, we just use a different SMTP host behind the scenes to deliver your email now.
Yes, this means you’ll need a SendGrid account (or whatever tool you’re using). However, when you look at the cost of SendGrid + Listomo, its light years cheaper than other email service providers. I’ve been able to reduce my costs by over 85% using Listomo.
Will You Match Features of other ESP’s?
Listomo does not have all the features of these other providers, and we don’t plan to, but it doesn’t mean we’re not open to improve. We’re here to be simple, effective and easy to use. If there is something that you really want that we don’t have, let us know and we’ll see if it fits.
That said, we are working on the following features:
- Automations
- This will enable things like …
- Drip Campaigns
- Tagging
- and much more.
- This will enable things like …
- Custom HTML Emails
- Embeddable forms via JavaScript Snippets
Just reach out if you have any questions about features.
Your Time and Money Are Valuable
If you’re interested in saving time and money and making your lists easier to manage, please check out Listomo.
At the time of writing we have one plan that supports up to 10 lists and unlimited contacts. I’m sure our structure will change as we learn more about the market, but right now this should suffice for most of the entrepreneurs and creators I’ve spoken to. Plus, if you get in now, your plan will be grandfathered if/when we update our pricing.
As always, reach out if you have any questions.
